Bel Air - The Sleeping Beauty (1989)

The second album from this German band.

The band was a seven piece band on this album with a lineup of flute, guitars, bass, drums, piano, synths, percussion, keyboards and English vocals.

Their 1986 debut album Welcome Home was very poor. My review is here. That album was re-released as their third album A Golden Dream in 1994 before the band split up and was never heard of again.

I had not expectations to The Sleeping Beauty. With good reasons, that is.

I was not let down.

The Sleeping Beauty gives us thirty-nine minutes of rather primitive neo-prog. The sound is really thin and weak. Ditto for the instruments. The vocals are pretty bad.

There are some fairly good songs here though. But they are being let down by the sound and the not so imaginative song structures.

The result is a decent album who does nothing to dispel the myth that Bel Air was not God's gift to the German neo-prog scene.
