Ossicles - Music for Wastelands (2015)

The second album from the Veland brothers from Norway.

The Veland brothers plays drums, keyboards, bass and guitars. They also does the vocals.
A guest musician provides saxophone and a female vocalist adds some female vocals.

I very much rated their 2012 debut Mantelpiece. You can read my review here.

Mantelpiece was an album kicking in all directions though. It had a lot of incorporated genres and was at times a bit disjointed and confusing.

The brothers has settled down and scrapped their most wild ideas. What is left is melodic, slightly edgy neo-prog with a lot of fusion and jazz influences. There are also some classic rock influences here.

This seventy minutes long album may lack the more edgy type of stuff from their debut album. But it sounds a lot more coherent. One thing replaces the other. I am just happy that the brothers has come up with two quality albums.

This album too is a good album. There is a lot of interesting details and melodies here. The very sporadic female vocals and saxophones adds a lot of spice to this album. An album well worth checking out.
