Fireballet - Night On Bald Mountain (1975)

The debut album from this US band.

Fireballet was a quintet with a lineup of mellotron, keyboards, bass, drums, guitars, piano, organ, percussions and vocals.

This band released two albums before they gave up the ghost. Their second album, the 1976 album Two, Too... is not regarded as a good album according to ProgArchives. So I am giving that a miss.

Their music on this album is in the good old classic symphonic prog genre. They sounds like a mix of Hackett era Genesis, Phillips era Genesis and Yes. Add in some Cathedral (US) and ELP influences too and you are pretty close to get this album.

There are two ten minutes plus opuses here. Les Cathedrales is the opening track and clocks in at just over ten minutes. The title track clocks in at almost nineteen minutes. Three shorter tracks completes this forty-two minutes long album.

The sound is the typical vintage symphonic prog sound. They are from USA and they have succesfully mixed that US sound with the UK sound. The sound is a bit weak, but it is still pretty good.

So is the songs too. The best ones are the two opuses. But the shorter songs are also good. The sound is the weakest link here. Nevertheless, this is a very good album which will appeal to everyone into symphonic prog.
