Major Parkinson - Blackbox (2017)

The fourth album from this Norwegian band.

Major Parkinson is a seven piece big band on this album with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, piano, guitars, violin, synths, organ, programming, mikrokorg and vocals.
They had help from numerous other musicians who provided xylophone, cello, whistling, woodwinds and vocals.
A female choir also helped out the band.

I have reviewed two of their previous albums and you can read my reviews here and here. I like this band in other words.

The band creates a lot of noise and sound on this album. And it is not run of the mill progressive rock you will find on this album.

I think the label here is gothic pop noir. There is a lot of cabaret feelings here with electronica and goth vocals. The vocals is really dark. The music is really orchestral and gothic with a vaudeville and cabaret feeling.

I feel a bit lost when I am trying to describe this music. There is a lot of female vocals and lots of dark male vocals with circus like piano, cello, violins and woodwinds.

This is indeed a strange album. It is also fifty minutes of very good music which transcends a lot of genres and is therefore as progressive as you can get although the music is more rooted in the 1930s than in these days and age.

This is indeed another very good band from this Norwegian band. Check it out.
