Guadalquivir - Despues Del Silencio (1984)

The third and final album from this Spanish band.

The band was a seven piece big band with a lineup of saxophone, flute, guitars, drums, bass, keyboards and piano.
Four guest musicians provided percussions and vocals.

Guadalquivir is one of those gems from the Spanish scene. Their first two albums gives us some of the best folk music inspired fusion in the scene. You can read my reviews here and here.

The band had taken a four years long break and the world was a lot less receptive to fusion in 1984 than in 1978 and 1980. The band's timing of their albums was unfortunate, but not their fault. These were the dark days of fusion and progressive rock.

Despues Del Silencio is a far more less folk rock inspired album than their previous two albums. There is a lot of saxophone here. The sound is a lot slicker too.

There is not much here on this forty minutes long album where you can say that this is music from a Spanish band. The fusion here is universal.

The music is medium intense and pretty good throughout. It is their least interesting album, but it is still a good album.
