Kayak - Starlight Dancer (1977)

The fifth album from this Dutch band.

Kayak was a quintet with a lineup of drums, percussion, mellotron, harpsichord, accordion, celesta, piano, synths, guitars, organ, bass and vocals.
Two guest musicians added synths and saxophones.

I am doing some reviews of their albums this winter and you can find them somewhere else in this blog.

It is fair to label Kayak as legends. They are still giving us gigs and recording albums. Their last album was released less than a year ago. The band is still very popular.

Kayak has to me and my ears always sounded like a crossover of Supertramp, Genesis and Yes. On this album, please discount Yes from their sound and music.

There is a lot of Supertramp and Genesis vibes on this album. Add in a lot of Europop too and you get this album.

The music on this thirty-five minutes long album is very poppy and commercial. The vocals is good and the same can be said about the other musicians too. It is an album which is borderline sub-standard. But I have to admit I like their sound a lot and it is a redeeming feature on this rather good album. Hence the rating.
