Tangent. The - The Slow Rust Of Forgotten Machinery (2017)

The ninth album from this English band.

The Tangent was a quintet on this album with a lineup of saxes, flutes, bass, drums, guitars, double bass and vocals. Mostly male vocals but also some female vocals.

This band does not need any introductions. Andy Tillison & co has been one of Europe's best prog bands for the last decade or so. They debuted fifteen years ago and has released some very good and great albums since then.

I have done a lot of reviews of their albums in # 1 of this blog and you can read them there.

The band had a bit of a dip in form on their 2015 album A Spark In The Aether. But Andy Tillison found a great deal of grudging inspiration in the events that followed that album here in the UK.
The Slow Rust Of Forgotten Machinery is all about that, if I am not much mistaken.

I have the second edition of this album which includes a five minutes long bonus track. A version of this album I recommend.

The album follows in the great The Tangent tradition. Fans and those who knows their music will not be surprised at all. That means long melodic songs with lots of details and a great Canterbury prog feel throughout. A bit jazzy prog.
Andy's vocals is on the top and there is also some female vocals here too.

The songs are all very good. The lyrics are poignant. The Tangent are back in form again and I very much welcome that. So check out this album.
