Ponty. Jean Luc - Fables (1985)

The 16th album from this French artist.

Jean Luc Ponty on violins, synclavier, synths and percussion was helped out by a trio who provided drums, bass and guitars.

His work kept a good to very good standard during the dark days of the 1980s. They were a bit stripped down when it comes to musicians and instruments. But they still offered up a lot of noise, sound and quality.

Everything is off course focused on Jean Luc Ponty's violins. That is why you buy and/or listens to one of his albums. But a Jean Luc Ponty is not a one trick pony.

The music on Fables is really described in the album title. Musical fable in the fusion land. Some of it is also crossing into progressive rock. In particular, symphonic progressive rock.

Some of the music on this half an hour long album is also leaning towards ambient music. That is not my favourite music, and that is an understatement, but Jean Luc Ponty also makes that work. A bit more intensity in the music would have been preferred.

This is still a good album though. Not as good as the previous albums, see reviews somewhere else in this blog, but still good enough to keep my interest. Where everyone else failed, Jean Luc Ponty was still going strong in the 1980s. Respect !!
