Premiata Forneria Marconi - Stati Di Immaginazione (2006)

The 17th album from this Italian band.

Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) was a trio on this album with a lineup of flute, bass, guitars, percussions and drums.
A couple of guest musicians provided moog, hammond organ, violins and keyboards.

The second of PFM's comeback albums and an album universally praised. Which does not mean a thing to me. But I note the good reviews this album has got in ProgArchives.

This album is entirely instrumental. Large parts of it reminds me about Camel. The yellow orange thing on the front cover reminds me about something flying through the air and gives me some Snow Goose associations.

Has PFM gone down the Snow Goose path Camel once staked out with this great album ? It almost feels like it.

The music is very gentle here and has a strong symphonic prog feel. There are some hints of jazz and fusion too.

The danger of following the Camel path is to make pieces of wishy-washy toothless music. Stati Di Immaginazione is pretty much a forty-six minutes long toothless piece of music with lots of everything but good songwriting. It is an improvement on their worst albums and just that.

This album and their Dracula album is on the same level. Decent to good in other words.
