Magic Pie - King For A Day (2015)

The fourth album from this Norwegian band.

The band was a sextet on this album with a lineup of guitars, keyboards, bass, drums and vocals.

The band has shown good form on their previous three albums so I was looking forward to reviewing this album.

Magic Pie gives us a mix of symphonic prog, neo-prog, pomp rock and progressive metal on this album. Their formula has not changed that much since their debut album back in 2005. The references to The Flower Kings has diminished over the years, though.

All their albums has a good organ/keyboards sound which takes us back to the 1970s. That organ sound is still here. The music is a bit on the heavy side. It is a lot more pompous than before too.

The songs are all good on this seventy minutes long album. But I feel they are stuck in a formula now. Their albums are very long too. The band now need to come up with some great songs to develop and grow. Good is not good enough for this band and their albums.

That said, this is still a pretty enjoyable album and a good one too.
