Mahavishnu Orchestra - Mahavishnu (1984)

The sixth album from this US band.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of guitars, bass, drums, flute, saxophones, percussion, keyboards, piano and synths.
The band had help from four other musicians who provided tabla, synths, percussion and flute.

Mahavishnu Orchestra was again relaunched by John McLaughlin after a long break. This time with only Bill Cobham and John from the original band. Bill Evans, Jonas Hellborg and Mitchel Forman was hired into the band.

Forget about the fusion, the fantastic sonic fusion from the original band. This is what you will not get here. To most reviewers dismay, that is.

What we get here is 1980s jazz. Pure and simple jazz.

The first Mahavishnu Orchestra albums is among my all-time favourite albums and they changed my outlook on music. I believe I am not alone here. Mahavishnu, this album, does not get anywhere near them.

John's guitars are not that good here and it seems like the band is running through the motions here. There is not many good things on this album.

It is a decent album and just that. End of it.
