Himmellegeme - Myth Of Earth (2017)

The debut album from this Norwegian band.

Himmellegeme is a quintet with a lineup of guitars, keyboards, bass, drums and vocals. The vocals are both in Norwegian and in English.

The flood of new Norwegian progressive rock bands is never ending. And that makes me as happy as a pig in mud. This is indeed the golden age of Norwegian progressive rock.

This band too comes from Bergen on the west coast of Norway. A city which is now the hotpot of progressive rock.

Their music is very similar to the likes of Gazpacho and Airbag. More Gazpacho, though. There are also some hints of blues here.

That means long, lingering melancholic songs with some really great vocals. The vocalist, Alexander Vormestrand, has some of the finest vocals I have heard for a long time. He vocals sits somewhere between Morten Harket (A-Ha) and Kristoffer Rygg (Ulver).

The guitar solos are also very good and the keyboards does a good job too.

The album is forty minutes long divided on seven songs. That is long enough for a debut album like this one.

This is indeed a very good album where the quality of the songs are a bit lacking. But do not let that prevent you from getting this album.
