Itoiz - Itoiz (1978)

The debut album from this Spanish band.

Itoiz was a quintet with a lineup of bass, drums, flute, guitars, organ, synths, piano and Basque vocals.

The band comes from the Basque region of Spain. A region who has given us some good folk/prog rock bands.

I have previously reviewed their second and third albums. Reviews are here and here. I am now reviewing the four remaining Itoiz albums I have got sometimes this winter. I have in total their six first albums. But I have not got their final album.

Itoiz was a band who fused Basque folk music with symphonic prog in the vein of Genesis and Camel. That also goes for this forty minutes long album.

This album is a fine mix of folk rock and symphonic prog. The music is mostly acoustic with some good vocals on the top. Flutes and acoustic guitars are everywhere. There are also some electric guitars, piano and synths here.

The music is rather pastoral and not so bombastic. The overall quality is decent to good throughout. But I am still rating this as a good album because despite of the not so good songs, there are still a lot of interesting details. This album is by no means their best album. But it is still an interesting album.
