Kandahar - Long Live The Sliced Ham (1974)

The debut album from this band from Belgium.

Kandahar was a quartet with a lineup of sitar, guitars, clavinet, synths, piano, bass, drums, glockenspiel, strings, woodwinds, tambourine, cello, marinba and vocals.

The band was quite popular in Belgium and Europe before they gave up the ghost with their final album back in 1981. That after having split up twice already.

I got their three first albums and will review them this winter/you can find my reviews of their two next albums somewhere else in this blog.

Kandahar is a band who operates somewhere between fusion and the Canterbury prog scene. This album is most definate a Canterbury prog album.

The reason is the many quirky pop like tunes here who are inbetween some fusion and jazzy Canterbury prog tunes. The music here is not fusion at all, with the exception of a couple of tracks.

Gong springs to mind here and the band gigged with Gong too. I am not surprised at all..........

The music is decent throughout these forty odd minutes. But I am not impressed and I hope their two next albums is better than this one.
