Pictorial Wand - Face Of Our Fathers (2009)

The second and final album from this Norwegian band.

Mattis Sorum (guitars, organ, keyboards, bass and percussion) had enlisted nine other contributors who supplied cello, violins, drums, organs, piano, flutes and vocals.

I reviewed their 2006 debut album A Sleeper's Awakening some days ago and liked that album. See my review here.

Three years had gone and we find this project with a new sound again.

Gone is the more softer symphonic prog sound. That has been replaced with a harder edge prog metal sound. There is also some goth metal in the sound.

There are still some symphonic prog here though. But not as significant as on the debut album.

The music is also a lot more streamlined and following the prog and goth metal formulas with dramatic and bombastic male and female vocals. The guitars are also harder here.

The quality is also missing to a large extent on this seventy minutes long album. This album is just running through the motions. I am not impressed.
