Fromage - Ophelia (1988)

The second and final album from this Japanese band.

Fromage was a quintet with a lineup of flute, guitars, keyboards, bass, drums and vocals.

I reviewed their 1984 debut album Ondine back in April 2016 and liked that album a lot. You will find this review here.

Fromage was a Japanese symphonic prog band. The music here is indeed symphonic prog with lots of local colours and sound.

The vocals are a bit thin and not so masculine. The typical Japanese vocals in short. An acquired taste it is too. I can live with them and they are an instrument as far as I concern. An instruments who blends in with the keyboards and the guitars.

Most of the album is pastoral symphonic prog. The title track is almost a pop song and the identity of the album. A good song indeed.

The rest of this album is also good with a lot of interesting details and a solid introduction to Japanese symphonic prog for those who want to dip their toes and/or ears into this scene. You will not be disappointed. Check out this album.
