Ithaca - A Game for All Who Know (1973)

The one and only album from this British band.

Ithaca was a trio with a lineup of auto harp, electric guitars, acoustic guitars, bass, recorder, percussion, mandolin, organ and vocals. Both male and female vocals.
They had help from three other musicians who provided flute, drums and classic guitars.

This band was first called Agincourt who in 1970 released an album called Fly Away. Then they abandoned this name and released another album, the one I am now reviewing.

Both album seems very much like DIY efforts. Home made with not much, if any, label support. And the same goes for the music too.

Take folk folk rock and add some US west-coast psychedelia to the music.

The vocals and the organs is good. Ditto for the guitars.

The sound is pretty wretched and not really up to scratch. That even goes for 1973. And it has not transferred well to 2018 either. This half an hour long album is a DIY, do it yourself product from start to finish.

The songs are decent enough. This is not an album I would say is sparkling and adding a lot of value to the folk rock scene. Hence my verdict.
