Quatermass - Long Road (1997)

The second album from this band.

Quatermass was a quartet with a lineup of guitars, bass, drums, percussion and vocals.
Don Airey did the keyboards as a guest artist.

This follow up to their self titled 1970 debut album (see my review here) contains only Mick Underwood from the original trio. Maybe he owns the Quatermass name too. Obviously, he does. That is the only reason I can find for putting out this album under the Quatermess name.... although with an II fixed to the name.
Nick Simper from Deep Purple fame (he was their bassist on their first three albums) is also a member of this band.

That was his choice and I am sure he can live with that.

Fans of the original band does not get much to enjoy on this album, though..... There is absolute nothing on this album who reminds me about their debut album. Absolute nothing.

We get fifty minutes of a mix of hard rock and heavy metal here. Whitesnake springs to mind as a reference. The music is classic hard rock and heavy metal, indeed.

The vocals are a bit too screaming for my liking. And the heavy metal cliches comes fast and as regular as hot days in the Sahara desert.

Nevertheless, this is still a half-decent album, released by some true veterans in the scene. The misuse of the Quatermess name is a serious matter though.....
